The Office Administration Education Study Program FE UNY, held Community Service in the form of Laboratory Management Training for teachers from SMK Negeri 1 Purworejo on June 4, 2015. The background of this community service program in the laboratory field is indicated that policy makers in this case the government have not focused and serious in structuring educational facilities and infrastructure, especially laboratory problems. Whereas the laboratory is a practical learning facility that has a strategic role in improving the quality of learning. Practical learning in the laboratory aims to improve students' knowledge and skills. The success of practical learning in the laboratory is strongly influenced by various factors including the completeness of facilities and infrastructure, equipment in the laboratory, human resources and management. Many laboratories cannot function optimally due to poor management.

Efforts to ensure that the equipment and materials in the laboratory are ready for use at all times, requires good management, maintenance and planning. Efforts to realize the above require laboratory managers, laboratory heads and technicians/laborators who are competent and have understanding and experience in the field of laboratory management. The problem that exists today is that the number of human resources who have laboratory management competence is limited and even very minimal.

Head of Administrative Education Department, concurrently as Head of Office Administration Education Study Program, Drs. Joko Kumoro, M.Si. said that the laboratory training program should not be misinterpreted or twisted solely for the sake of fulfilling the teaching burden for teachers. He emphasized that it was indicated that the laboratory management/management in schools had not been carried out professionally according to standard standards in shaping the competence of graduates in accordance with the characteristics of the study programs in schools.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Education and Training Sector, Drs. Purwanto, M.M., M.Pd. state that; This education and training has an important role that this training aims to: 1) prepare training participants to become members of the community who have academic and professional abilities in the field of office administration. 2) disseminate knowledge, skills (hard skills and soft skills) in the field of office administration. 3) support civil society development. 4) achieve competitive advantage through the application of laboratory management principles and human resources in accordance with professional management principles.
